Year 3 RE News

In Religion we have been preparing for Christmas and learning about the man that prepared the way for Jesus, John the Baptist.  John is most famous for Baptising Jesus in the River Jordan, but did you know:

His parents were Zechariah and Elizabeth
He was Jesus’ cousin
He lived in the desert and ate grasshoppers
His message was one of forgiveness and the need to repent. To repent is to be sorry for doing wrong and try not to do it again.

Below are some of our art pieces of John the Baptist.

Year 6 Class News

It has been a very busy couple of weeks in Year 6!

We’ve been finishing off Mathematics, working on Christmas Craft, going on Squash excursions and helping the Year 5 students to learn about the ministries they will have in 2020. With only one week of school left, we are very excited about our final excursion to Trigg Beach, our Graduation Mass on Thursday evening and our last day of primary school!

Our time at St Anthony’s has been amazing, but we’re ready for the challenge of high school now 😉.

Year 5 Class News

Multiplication, Division and Transformations,
Being addressed by our Year 5 Mathematicians;
In Health we’re covering Food and Nutrition,
Soon we’ll vie for a leadership position.

In Religion we’re learning about our special gift from God,
Sharing it with others, we’ll receive a nod;
HASS takes us to the climate, vegetation and seas,
Of North and South America, we’re busy little bees.

Poetry writing will definitely be fun,
With words to rhyme or even a pun;
We’re eager as beavers over Similes and Metaphors,
Or Alliteration’s awesome anteaters on all fours.
Pop! Sizzle! Crash! in Onomatopoeia,
This will take us right to the end of the year.

Year 6 RE News

In Religious Education we have been learning about Human Sexuality. We all develop physically, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually and socially as we mature from childhood to adulthood.  This time between childhood and adulthood we call adolescence.  During adolescence each of us develops and changes at different rates and times.  Physical changes can vary greatly for us at this time. These changes remind us that God created each of us as a unique individual.

Pre-Primary RE News

The Pre-Primary students are learning about the “Gift of Memory” as part of their Religious Education program.  They have shared and illustrated stories about some of their favourite memories.  As October is a month dedicated to Mary, the students have being saying “The Hail Mary” during daily prayer and adding some images of her to the daily prayer focus.

Staff were very proud of the students when they showed great reverence and sang fervently during the recent school Mass.

Well done Pre-Primary students!

Year 1 Class News

We have begun this term exploring bugs and insects.  In groups, we brainstormed all of the different things insects can do.  We imagined what we would do if we were an insect and wrote all about our adventures.

First Holy Communion

During the term our Year 4 students made their First Holy Communion. Over one weekend 44 of students received the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time. This focus on the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and receiving Holy Communion, shows the students how to grow closer in friendship with Jesus and be more like him in the world.RE2

3+ Class News

We have been very busy in the 3+ classroom. We have been learning all about farms and have just begun our ‘Under the Sea’ theme. We continue to have fun with our friends, listen to stories and join in with singing and dancing. One of our favourite things to do at the moment is to dress up in the costumes during outdoor play time. We had a great time last week developing our motor skills using the hoppers, scooter and balance boards and also developing our ball skills. We practised sorting animals into sea and non-sea animals and made jiggly jellyfish.

We hope that everyone has a happy and safe holiday!Screen Shot 2019 09 26 at 3.58.15 PM

Year 4 Class News

In Year 4, we have been learning about resources and sustainability as part of our Geography curriculum.  We are collaboratively designing solutions for how to save the world.  In English, we have been writing persuasive texts to convince others to live with more consideration of the environment.  We have planted a garden to provide food sustainably and to keep the bees happy and healthy.  Our Waste Warriors are helping with composting the school’s food scraps and collecting soft plastics for recycling.  We went on an excursion to the landfill at Tamala Park to learn about what happens with our waste when we don’t reduce, reuse or recycle it.  We also had someone come out to teach us about how long it takes for waste to break down and we practised putting together nude food lunchboxes.  We are very enthusiastic to make a positive difference in the world!

Year 3 RE News

At mass on Sunday, the church celebrated the birthday of Mary, the Mother of God.  In recent weeks we also celebrated The Assumption of Mary.  This was when Mary was taken to Heaven body and soul after her death.  In Year 3, we examined ancient art pieces depicting The Assumption and drew some of our own.
